Angry Failing Turbo

Got the call from my Dealer this morning that my turbo is sticking. I noticed when it is really cold out that I have no boost or very little unless I really get on the throttle. Dealer said that the vanes are stuck and is probably due to "coking up". He recomends replacement for $2,300.00.

Does this sound ok? Should I consider an aftermarket turbo and if so what do I gain?

Thanks.

If it were me and I was out of warranty and I was looking at a $2300.00 bill and if the dealer won't help you out, THEN, I would call Matt at Spartan Performance Diesel and look into one of his performance turbo rebuilds. If you can stand the down time, he might just put the parts into your current turbo giving you a VERY improved version over stock within the stock shell. I am kind of looking for a bad 2003 turbo to send to him myself for this conversion (to put onto my 06). We are talking blade count here. Matt offers some conversion options on the turbos that aren't too scary. Just my 2 cents worth.... rc

You guys have probably saved me $2,300 today. I'll be cleaning the turbo tomorrow and let you know how it goes. I'll try and do some pics along the way.

Thansk again!
Greg
