This O8 didn't come with it either. Maybe cost cutting.

Gee...Its like looking under my hood. I agree cost cutting.I wouldn't like to think that somewhere on the assembly line there is a huge pile of covers and some guys laughing at us.

So here is my review after a weekend of city and highway driving.

It definately helped with throttle response. I can hit the accelerator and there is no delay in moving like there used to be. Transmission even seems to be shifting smoother than it was, and i am sure this is not my imagination. As far as improving fuel economy......it does if you stay off the accelerator. Last night I drove 30 miles to and 30 miles from a super bowl party and I was traveling on average between 70 and 75, and up to 80 mph a few times, I was getting 22.5 to 23 mpg on this trip. Not bad, normally I would have gotten maybe 20 or 21 at the most. Its the first time I filled up a gas tank and the miles til empty showed almsost 420 miles, normally it says about 350 miles or so.

Noise is not a factory either. I wrapped the tube and intake box with the b quiet ultimate, can barely even hear the thing unless I get on it. Doesnt get loud until rpms hit around 4000, a little lower when very cold outside.

Darn good. I drove to Vegas last week, 400 miles each way. 80-85 with a head wind half the trip. 18.9 mpg average. I thought it was great. Oh, and thats with the tires 2-4 pounds under what they should be-35psi cold.

None of the '08 Expys at the Washington DC auto show had triton engine covers. either didnt need the noise reduction, the looks, or the cost!

Doesn't make sense. True, the cover does nothing but make the engine compartment neater, but how much is Ford saving? $3? For this amount it's worth it to tidy up the engine looks.

Someone has to look up that part number and see what it retails for.

$3 per vehicle could be alot of savings. How many expeditions/F150's are made every year?

As much as not selling a few units because the motor didn't appeal to some people visually? Cut where you can't see it makes the most sense.

I had no idea there was to be a cover until I looked at your pics and examined the mounts on the intake area. I might have had the cover painted to match the truck BUT it seems getting a dead on match to the is white sand color has been difficult. If I did get it painted I know I would have removed for summer driving and then never put it back on. I guess they saved me some garage space and some cash on paintwork.
