Cadillac CTS-V
#136
Cadillac = named after the French explorer Walter de la Motte Cadillac, the founder of Detroit.
Anyone here know the former name of the Cadillac Motor Car Company?
Did'ja say Ford Motor Company?
Right-o!
First FoMoCo founded in Detroit in 1902. Ford quarreled with his financial backers, and left the company before a single car was built.
The backers brought in "the Master of Precision" Henry Martyn Leland, formerly with Browne & Sharp, and Colt's Pat'd. Firearms Manufacturing Company.
The first thing Leland did was change the company name.
Leland left Cadillac in 1915, and started his own auto company.
He named the company after his favorite US President: Lincoln.
1921 = first Lincoln, the car was masterly designed, horribly styled.
Lincoln went into bankruptcy court in 1922.
The only bidder and subsequent buyer (for 7 miilion dollars), of Lincoln = Henry Ford.
