The pertronix ignition is the best upgrade I performed on my truck. Cheap and very noticable diffrence in performance. Congrats, you are now a member of a very elite few, the top 1% of ford owners. Everywere you go from now on women will want you and men will want to be you. Use your new found power wiisley.

well now twice as much women will want me, lol. I done and bought another one. This one, if both end up good, will be a little interesting in it's application.

Sweet I saw the post. That sounds like something that would happen to me. A simple job that takes all day. Flatmotors are not nearly as bad as there reputation suggest. I think most of the engines found with cracks, cracked along time ago when the engine was fairly new due to bad casting. I pulled an F6 out of a barn that only had 13000 miles on it, and I got it from the original owner who said it never ran right and always used water. Finally they gave up on it and put in a barn. The frame was junk but I thought I scored gold when I found a broken valve in the engine. Then I found a crack so the block was junk, a real shame because there was no cylinder wear. But anyway down here it gets hot and there are alot of rice farms and 75% of old rice trucks that I have come across are 48-52 model fords with V8 engines. They were parked when the farmers retired and most of the plates are from the early to mid 80's, so these trucks worked for a long time in this hot a$$ environment for over 30 years!! They are not marshmellows as alot of people would have us believe. They have a sound all there own, you are going to be so happy with you motor congrats again.

amen on the sound of their own !! mine has headers , { supposed mild cam by po } , duals with glasspacks that terminate in front of the axle and it's a wonderful sound unique to the flatty that no modern motor will ever match !!! i got two links here on how to convert to electronic using chrysler parts , stock distributor , and a little rewiring if you wish to look . 1: http://forum.olskoolrodz.com/showth...tronic+ignition . 2: http://www.gofastforless.com/ignition/points.gif . later motovator !!!

HAVI, good luck with those flatties, you can always tell when ones coming down the road! if you do not intend to draw too much amperage off system, 12v gen will work just fine,(tried and true for a zillion years). don't be scared, been running mine for nearly 20 years without even wearing out brushes. original ignition also. it's a pretty cool gig. ps: have a virgin 8rt for sale if anyone is looking now fire it up son!!!!! pete
