He checked the torx bolts, they are good. When he moves it, it seems to go into gear. He says there is a black thing on the side of transmission, and when you shift it it moves a little. Is that normal? Sorry for being vague, I just cant recall what he is talking about. Also, when its cold it works ok, it seems when its warm it acts up. When warm, put it into drive, and it hops into gear then apply brake it comes out. Its inconsistent sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. 1st and 2nd seem to work most of the time, reverse always works. Its worst when going from reverse to drive, it will rev to 1k then shift into gear.

Also, he says when pointed uphill, and pu into drive it will just roll backwards, as if completely in neutral.

That is the manual lever position sensor it should be bolted to the trans case with two 8mm headed bolts it tells the computer what gear the driver selected PRND21,if that is loose that could be your promblem,it has to be tight to the case and has an adjustment on it

Basicilly the foward clutch has to engage in all foward ranges,if it was a pump promblem reverse would be affected also.If there are no trouble codes and the shift linkage is good I would say there is a internal promblem.

If it was a torque converter promblem it would be in reverse too.Has to be a internal promblem or linkage promblem,If you disconnect the trans from the computer the trans will still have 4th gear.
