Just got my Edge

What level should I run my Edge on. I dont want to use 93 octane as it is so expensive right now. I take it the only logical level is 2 (Tow) since 1 does nothing to the motor, but only transmission tuning.

Is there any effect to running level 2 (Tow) all the time. I am looking for MPG increase. I CAN keep my foot out of it.

ifyou do not want to run 93 octane, then DO NOT run level 3 !! you will detonate, and could grenade your engine. level 1 and 2 are both set up to run on 87 octane. i have not ran level 1 yet, but i run level 2 all the time. you can go into the settings, and customize shift points, shift firmness, tire size, etc. they claim to have a MPG increase, but most of us get too much fun out of the lead foot syndrome, so i couldnt tell you personally. if you run level 2, you will notice a difference.

i tried level 2 when i towed my trailer with my jeep on it. i did not see any difference over the stock setting.

only thing i noticed was my mileage, it was worse with level 2 then stock.

level 2 i was getting 9mpg average according to the edge unit
level 0 i was getting 13mpg average according to the edge unit

the only way to get a true reading that you can trust for MPG is to fill the tank completely, reset the odometer, and do the math every time... although, my edge is pratty damn close when i check it.

I run level two all the time.

the only thing I do to the level 2 tune is I dial back my timing a half-degree. I did that as I was getting just a little bit of detonation at higher RPM with gas from a few different gas-stations. So I cranked back a bit on my timing and no more pinging.

Level one is transmission shift only....level two actually does some stuff with the engine to give a few extra horses, but not that much.

I have ran level three on mine and there is a VERY noticable difference in the truck. differences between one and two aren't large, however.

yeah...the tune is in the PCM not the Edge unit.

The Edge is good for keeping track of stuff that your dash gauges normally don't, though.

Finally got around to installing a Edge tune. All I can say is WOW!. I started on level 2 then went and bought some STP octane booster and poured that in the tank and turned it on level 3. I put the octane booster in because i had a pretty full tank of regular. DO you think that was OK to do?

Why dosent Ford make the truck like this from the factory!

I was also amazed on how fast it installs the tune. The Ford PCM must be really fast. In my Cummins it takes about 20 minutes.

so with each of the levels you can control the timeing degree if it pings a tad?
