Lift it and make it a pre runner get fiberglaas front clip and fiberglass bed sides.
Put a selectable locker in it and a winch with a block and tackle and of course a high lift jack.
And watch all your 4x4 buddies stare when you go through the same stuff they are going through in 4 wd!! I do a lot in 2wd I mostly put in 4wd to make sure it gets used, If you air down your tires and drive the correct way for the conditions you can
make it where a bad driver in 4wd will get stuck!!

I would leave it be on a DD.

There are not too many better ways to have people laugh at you then to have your lifted 2x4 get stuck on wet grass.

Do a search for ox locker or arb air locker it makes a solid connection between the left
and right tire so one doesn't sit there and spin, There are auto lockers but I prefer
a selectable so you know it is engaged. A block and tackle increases the pulling power
of your winch depending on how many you have, You can make a 6000 lbs winch pull
18000lbs it just takes longer but it is good to have if you get buried to the frame.
The high lift jack is like the old bumper jacks but tougher and will let you lift up the
truck and fill in your ruts, you can straighten bent parts with etc. it is a good tool
to have. Having a good supply of air either a compressor or one of those CO2 tanks
will make airing up your tires easier, It is what makes the difference between getting
stuck in wet grass like he says or making it through eel snot mud. Try running the tires
at 25psi and see how they sit and if it is enough traction for the conditions make sure
you mind the pressure you are running and don't go to fast and make it bottom the
rubber on the rim, A locker will be the determining factor on if you get stuck alot
or you get through. The fiberglass body parts are mostly for looks but can help with gas mileage if they are lighter!!

that ox locker sounds like a great upgrade... i may just look for that and like a 4" lift... would a 4 in lift make the truck level as well? would you recomend one kit? is there such thing as a budget kit? what size tires would you recomend? (if you dont have one size in specific, like a range of sizes... trying to keep gas mileage in mind..)

thanks!

When you do the locker change the R&P to a gear ratio that matches the tires you
are going to run. If you keep the motor in it's powerband and rpm range it will perform
pretty much the same as stock!! http://members.optusnet.com.au/~zerosin/gearcalc.html
Play around with that and see the change different size tires will make.
I would go with whatever you can afford for the front longer springs or different spindles for the rear go with an add aleaf that will bring up 2-21/2 inch or so, Don't use
blocks on the rear it just adds problems sure it is cheap but not worth it $80.00 for the
add a leaf is money well spent. Broncograveyard.com carries them. If you go with 4"
lift on the front and 21/2" on the rear it will be close to level if not, you could cut a block down or get a spring pack and cut the ends off and just use the center section
of the leaf. http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...80-89_f150.htm But don't use those blocks!!
