My problem is I live in hot AZ and the sun hits the doors all day long. Some of the parts in the regulator assembly are plastic and they get brittle with the heat. If you use the windows very often eventually they snap and break and now you end up having to replace the whole assembly because you cannot get the individual parts to repair the regulator. My guess is that Ford can get them repaired and for every one they replace they probably send it back to the manufacturer of the regulators and have them refurbish them. Thats just a guess though. It just seems like a lot to waste the whole assembly, motor and all, just to have a few plastic pieces broken.

ok, a little info.....

drivers side window regulator:
6L3Z1823201BA (SCREW/SCAB ONLY 2006-2008)
$106.43 list.
$74.50 @ 30% off, which most of you could get with some searching, ford dealers regularly give 30% discounts to shops, likely online sellers too. we get 32% fwiw.

the 04-05 are a PITA, and the super failure prone years, they cost more, and regular cab part is different than the scab, which is also different than the screw. totally stupid on fords part, costs more money to use three different power window regulators.

my 06 scab has 63k, and is 19 months old. drivers window takes about 2-5 seconds to respond after pushing the switch up. down, about .5-1.0 seconds. window takes about 30 seconds to roll all the way up now, vs about 5-7 when new, so even the later model "revised" parts are junk.
this is not Ford only, chevy truckshave POS regulators, and did long before ford cheaped out (can you say "chinese parts?, I knew ya could...) those regulators are 185 list, but at least they were nice enough to use the exact same part for the whole run (99-2007)

Talking

Maybe Ford should issue a recall. What if you are out in some sideways rain or crazy wind and the damn window just drops out? You could be hit by something in the blustering wind or blind sided by the rain itself. Ha! They would laugh. I just did my drivers side window. 2004 FX4 SCREW. whole regulator assembly. if anyone needs a working motor, i'll sell you one.

Where can you get these parts for that price? I have only seen them for sale through the local Ford dealerships and here in Phoenix, AZ they charge about $140 each. If Ford Motor Company isn't going to do anything about this problem then I hope I can start getting window regulators a lot cheaper than $140 a piece. Especially at the rate in which they fail.

Well after my 5th window regulator assembly failure in 3 years I kept complaining to everyone I could think of. Dan Grubb Ford in Phoenix, AZ did nothing and they also keep very poor service records in my opinion. Most of my repairs say "Service performed: UNKNOWN". How is this? And when I asked them to correct it they told me that they cannot alter it once the ticket is closed. WHAT? I would like a detailed description for future use. Ford Motor Company also did nothing except tell me to hang on to all my receipts for future reference. The customer service rep told me they are starting to receive more and more complaints about this and they might do something about it in the future. I hope everyone dealing with this same problem starts complaining more and more so they do something about it sooner than later.

Well I have the worst luck. 6 months ago my front passenger window regulator blew out and now my front driver side blew out and my rear sliding window too. I don't know how to fix so I had to take it to ford. I was amazed at how much it cost. $1,265 for two motors and one switch. It was $645 just for labor and I know that it only takes about 20 min to fix them

Not to beat a dead horse, but this thread helped me a bunch. I thought I would add some pictures for reference.

Some days I feel fortunate to have an XL with manual windows. In the past 4 years I have only replaced two regulators that were manual compared to hundreds of power regulators.

Ford has updated the part number which I hope the part is updated itself. I did my second window in 6 months. Drivers side rear in a screw. You can't take the window out, but you don't need to.

Wow, I came to this forum specifically looking for this topic. Didn't realize what an issue it apparantly is. All four of my regulators in my 04 SCREW failed within this year. Drivers side in January, then both back regulators within literally 2 days of each other in October, had them replaced at the same time, out of the shop one week and front passenger side went. I have extended warranty with $50 deduct, they would not waive it for this clear defect. Luckily I am out only $150 total in dedutable but I feel I am entitled to this money back. Are they issuing a recall for this crap?

They are not issuing a recall but Ford Motor Co. told me to save all my receipts because they are receiving more and more complaints about this and may reimburse customers in the future. I also posted all my complaints on CarComplaints.com - Car Problems, Car Complaints, & Repair/Recall Information. This is absolutely the worst problem I have ever experienced with a brand new vehicle and I believe Ford needs to correct this.

The problems associated with this style of regulator has been common since the mid 90s when automakers went on a weight and size reduction program. One would think that the window thats used the most would fail first, but noooooooooooooo I have personally seen regulators that never get used fail and with many years in the glass business they have been a good source of revenue for me. The best thing one can due imho is to routinely lubricate the glass run channels both front and rear with wd40 this will reduce friction and in the long run might just be the difference with keeping a few hard earned dollars in your pocket or your wife amused for a day at the mall, whichever good luck

Someone may have already mentioned this as well; heat and cold definitely will make the plastic parts more prone to weakening. I haven't had any fail so far(knock on wood). In Georgia, cool temps go down in the low teens sometimes. I never, ever attempt to roll my windows down when it's that cold outside esp if there's ice/frost on the windows. A stuck cold window that is forced down is asking for these plastic parts to fail. Also, I bought a white truck to keep the truck cooler during the summer, though the inside temp still gets up there.

I agree with bullredguy, lube those window runs regularly. I dont use WD40 as it doesnt dry and can streak and if you have add on window tint can cause some problems there. I recommend 3M dry silicone spray generously sprayed into the runs every other month or every month if you live in dryer dusty conditions. And as he stated dont roll the windows down if they are frozen, iced, heavily frosted. scrape them down and let the defroster warm them up first.
