B&W Turnover Ball Completely Stuck:(
#16
I've been in your situation before. (except it wasn't my truck). The ball was upside down though stuck in. We bought 2 gallons of PB and a gallon of WD-40 and soaked it every day for a week. We ultimatley had to take the entire ball assembly out and hit it with a 20 lbs BFG. even that took 8 swings. Once we got it out we buffed all the rust off of it, and from then on anytime we take the ball out we put a good ol dab of grease all the way around to keep any rust from forming.

First off i realize old thread. But i have a truck with the hitch stuck in the down position. It appears to be rusted in place. My question since i have never had a b&w is will the ball be able to fall completely thru or is there something that catches it. Im asking becase im going to have to get it out eventually and im debating on which direction to be massaging it

Not sure of the truck involved, but if you can see the bottom of the ball and have clearance, (drop the spare) then crib up with timbers and place a bottle jack on it. Use this to put pressure on the ball. If there is not room for the jack at the ball, the set the jack on the floor and use a short piece of 1" pipe to put pressure on the bottom of the ball. I've even used floor jacks and 3/4" socket extension to force out parts. If you have access to an overhead beam, then use a come-a-long and chain to lift on it. Make darn sure the release pin is backed out, and soak the ball with penetrating oil. Use the trucks weight to help. It's even feasible to both push from bottom, pull from the top, and then whack the snot out of it from the side with a brass hammer. Good luck

I have seen this happen twice to people that had never removed the ball and it rusted tight. On the one I personally tried to take apart for a friend after removing it from the truck it was all a 50 ton press could do to press it out. He make a plug out of plastic to put in the socket when not using it to prevent future problems. I have seen this happen many times with rear receiver hitches when people don't take them off after use also.
