Crate 460s and V-10s??
Does anybody know if you can buy a V-10 crate motor yet? How about a reliable crate 460? I currently have a 351W and E4OD in my '92 Bronco and am thinking about swapping to one of the two bigger gas motors. Will the E40D hold up to the swap? Any thoughts, comments are welcome! CA legal answers only (I know, buzz kill).

TK,
Yes you maybe could buy a V-10 crate motor from ford cost a bundle and whole bunch of mods to make it fit or you could do like we done buy a V-10 and tranny from junk yard for around 3k and find out the block has a hairline crack in it from an accident and no warranty what so ever from no one they are very few V-10s out in junk yards took us a year to find this one . if money is a object which it is with most of us I would stick with the 460 crate motor and a good tranny and if you want horsepower the 460 is definetly the way to go currenty horsepower mods I mean internal engine mods basically do not exsist for the V-10 right now unless you pay big dollars for parts.hope this helps

You won't be able to use the E4OD that came behind your 351W,because the 460 big-block,and the Triton V-10 have different bellhousing bolt patterns. You'll have to get a E4OD that originally was behind a EFI460,or,if you decide to go with the V-10,either a E4OD,or the later 4R100 will work, but make sure it is one meant for a V-10.You'll also need to modify your Bronco's computer.A 460-4V crate engine will require you modify the fuel system(the fuel pump, basically).Your EFI engine's pump has too much pressure for a carbed engine.A EFI460 would probably be the best way to go.If you can find a donor vehicle with the EFI460,you could also take it's E4OD tranny, the vehicle's computer&wiring harness, and have a shop rewire the truck to work with the changes. Many crate 460s(and 514s...)cost buku bucks....then you have to factor in other costs like a different tranny, and other details you forget about until you start the project.I'm just starting to collect some of the pieces for a EFI460&E4OD swap into my 1990 Bronco.I already bought all the wiring diagrams, and am getting the 429/460 engine mounts, soon. The most expensive part(naturally) will be buying a EFI460 engine&E4OD transmission.I figure,to ease into the project,I know I'll be in for a few surprises(i.e. extra costs here&there). You might try contacting some people that already have done such swaps in their Broncos.I did,and I'm going to use their advice as a reference.Everybody I contacted was really helpful,so that was cool.I currently know of 4 EFI460-powered late-model Broncos in existence.Hopefully,my '90 XLT will be #5.(There are probably a few more out there, maybe they'll find this website...)Good luck, and let me know how your project turns out.
