lower intake manifold

1997 f150 4x4 75k developed a rough idle and stalling problem,
mechanic say intake manifold plenum has 4 inch crack, this is made of plastic or some type of composite, this is a non moving part that should not have cracked, repair bill over $500.00
this is the 3rd time i have heard of this, called 2 dealerships
they have never heard of such a problem or repaired one, are the 4 of us just lucky or is this a problem ford should address?

This is well known to ford. Thunderbird and Cougars have this problem quite a bit. If they say otherwise go to another dealer...

So do Mustangs, Crown Victorias, and all other 1996 & up vehicles with a 4.6 engine. The only exception is the Bullitt Mustangs, which have an aluminum manifold. There's a guy on tccoa.com's message boards who's put a Bullitt manifold on his car. With the 99 & up Mustang GT heads, this provides a nice little boost in horsepower.
