I have a friend with a 97 F250 (looks like a 150) with the 5.4.
He tows a 28' 5th wheel. What kind of mods can be made to improve performance???

Well, you could throw a supercharger on it. But more power = shorter engine life. Check out some of the jokers in the lightning forum. They can't seem to understand why they are throwing rods and breaking parts. Of course the increased boost and nitrous has nothing to do with it.

Try a chip to improve the shift points, ignition and injector timing. A cold air intake kit will give you a few extra ponies.
Those are about the mildest changes you can make.
Don't get a chip that only alters the coolant temp sensor's reading. That only enriches the mixture and sucks gas. Bad for o2 sensors and gas mileage.

Everything else gets radical/ requires machine work/ shortens engine life.

I second the chip and the intake. A catback exhaust will help too, and it'll sound good when you lay into it! A shift kit wouldn't hurt, either

If you get one of the superchips offered on this site, a K&N FIPK (or a cold air kit - either one will help), a transgo shift kit, a nice catback, and put some synthetic ATF in there (Mobil 1 /Amsoil/Redline), you'll be set to go!
