The dealer quoted $4200.00 for the head gaskets if I didn't need new heads. The dealer recommended that I replace the FMC gaskets with Hypermax gaskets. The diesel shop is doing the same repair using the Hypermax gaskets and Ford head bolts and quoted $3000.00. If I need new heads the quote is approx. $4300.00 depending of the cost of the heads. Also the dealer will only warranty their work for 90 days. The diesel shop is going to warranty the work for 12 months or 12,000 miles. I like the shop quotes better.

Hypermax only recommends that you use original equipment head bolts with their gasket kits. They specifically do not recommend studs or aftermarket bolts. I will go with their recommendation.

Should go ahead and put in the ARP head stud kit as well, from what I have heard about them yo'd be much better off and could still use the tuner

ya, i gotts say, if you have the heads off you should upgrade all you can, so you dont have to pull them again to do the upgrades later.

Some very good reading in this thread, may I ask a question about the fan issues? When I was towing my 10K trailer in 100 degree weather up a steep grade I would hear a fan come on briefly (5-8 seconds). But I would also hear a very soft but high ring at the same time. any comments?
