If it is standard, I am pissed, becuase I have cloth. I even had to order the rear spit window seperate, I thought all trucks should have these.

I think the towing package also includes a larger tranny cooler (or a tranny cooler). This is what the salesman said, but not all salesman are all there.

You can also look on your rear differential and there will be a little tag on the housing that will have what gear is in your truck.

The FX4 comes standard with cloth seats and leather is an upgrade.

The towing package comes with:
Class IV Trailer hitch receiver
7 Pin wiring harness (the big circle plug in)
Upgraded radiator
Upgraded Auxiliary transmission oil cooler

If you do not have the towing package you don't have a receiver hitch. You would have to tow off of the bumper and it comes with the rectangular 4-pin plug in. So if you have the receiver hitch and 7 pin plug than you have the factory towing package.

Also not all towing packages come with the 3.73 gears. I have an xlt with the towing package and have 3.55 but if you have an FX4 it will always come from the factory with 3.73s.

This is good to know! I just (yesterday!!) purchased a 05 SuperCab FX4 (23k mi). It's got the factory class IV hitch and 7 Pin plug... the rest I was wondering about.

I was towing my 24ft TT with my 02 4.6L V8 Explorer... what at freaking dog this thing was. I'm excited to see how the F150 handles it.

Edit: Sorry for bumping an old thread

Old threads never die. They just lay low for a while & regain energy for their inevitable return.

Oh, and to help clear-up or maybe just further muddy the waters, here is some more information on the FX4 based on Ford's 2008 Order Guide.

The FX4 is a trim level that fits between XLT & Lariat.

All XLT content, plus:

I guess the million dollar question relates to the claimed slight difference between 3.55 and 3.73, and towing a heavy load.

I don't have my manual handy, but I recall seeing that the towing limit for the 3.73 is upwards of 1000 lbs more than with 3.55 gears (4x4 supercab 5.4L).

Why is this? Do I risk ANY damage if I choose to tow 9000 lbs with 3.55 gears?
