Back in November of 2003 I picked up the Excursion for my wife to use as her daily driver. At first she thought it was going to be a pain to driver compared to her 95 5.8 Bronco but she got used to it quickly. Bought with 104K miles with new tires and had the full 100K mile ESP warranty which had only a head light **** replaced. Current mileage 175K and runs very strong, original tranny, never even thought about touching the motor. $20,400 out the door, owe less than $5K put down $3K figure it's worth an easy $14K.
The F250 has 242K miles and runs just as good as the X.

I guess in theory, it shouldn't matter if the metal is in powder form before forging, but the real life results show the PMR's don't hold up to as much power as the "regular" forged rods.
We have the same problems in the Gen 2 Lightnings. We have forged rods, but they are PMR's, and they are the weak link in our engines.

I"m thinking of selling/trading my 00 4x4 LTD PSD. Four kids have gone down to two. And I really want a pick up . I have 170k on it and it has been the best truck I have ever owned. Getting new BFG's this week end. Only thing wrong with it is the cheap leather? cracking on Drivers seat. I love the 7.3 !!!!!!

[QUOTE=BULLDOG-X04]...my advice is to look for an 01 or 02 with low miles, which again is hard but not impossible. captains chairs are also very hard to find, and only DVD you will see in 00-02 is aftermarket....
I have a 2002 Limited with the 7.3 and an OE DVD player. It is actually a Limited
Ultimate (which, I am told means it has the two-tone leather interior and steering wheel mounted audio & A/C controls). I don't know if 2002 is the first year that the OE DVD player was available or not, but my 2002 has the factory DVD.
By the way, I love my X!

I just picked up mine 2 weeks ago in MN. Looked long and hard, but I was picky looking for only 02's and 03's. 2002 was the first year power pass. seats were available, memory seats, audio and a/c controls on the steering wheel. I found that they all seem to bring close to the same money, so I waited to find an 02 with what I wanted. We love it. The only advice would be like the others said be ready to buy when you find it!! I was lucky, I wired the dealer 2k to hold it until I could get there three days later. The dealer said he could have sold it four or five times since I wired the money. Heck he wanted my pickup!! 7.3's are highly marketable!!!

I bought an 01' X for the wife 2 months ago and we love it.
It is an '01 Limited 4x4 7.3 w/TV, leather, 3rd row, heated seats, and the list goes on. They are HARD to find around here with less than 200k+ miles! And those are still selling for $20g! I bought mine in EXCEPTIONAL condition for $21g with 106,000 miles. We get 18mpg hwy and 16+ around town with the AC wide open.
PS My wife wanted it straight piped w/ a 5" chrome tip so that's what she got!

I own a 2001 Excursion Limited with the 7.3 Powerstroke. I bought it with 80,000 miles on it around 19 months ago and it is the best thing I have ever done in regards to buying a vehicle. I paid $24,000 at the time. I have had no problems with the motor at all and very few problems with anything else. The only annoying problem I had was the "Door Ajar" light staying on which was remedied by changing the sensor/door latch in the passenger side rear door. The truck now has 125,000 miles on it and I am very happy with it. I am sure a lot of members of this forum will disagree with me but I suggest if you buy one, do not put any of the power add ons on it. I have kept mine stock and have had no problems. I know people whom have used the electronic power add ons and have had problems with their trucks. If you do use any aftermarket add ons I would suggest doing nothing more than exhaust without first having work done to the transmission. From what I have seen and heard, this is the first thing to let go once you start doing power modifications.
