? about hitch on the new F350

I just picked up my 2008 F350 Superduty with tow package. It say its rated for 11,500lb GVWR. Are you guys using the stock hitch that came with your truck or are you changing it out. Is the stock hitch capable of towing 9000lbs? Regular towing. I'm not talking about weight distribution.

The Factory Hitch on the 2003-2008 SRW & DRW F250/F350 SD is NOT rated to Conventionally tow more than 5000lb SRW & 6000lb DRW, without the use of a weight distribution hitch.

The Factory Receiver hitch on the 2003-2008 SRW F250/F350 SD is rated as follows:

Weight-Carring = 5000lb Max Trailer Wgt & 500lb Max Tongue Wgt
Weight-Distributing = 12,500lb Max Trailer Wgt & 1,250 Max Tongue Wgt

The Factory Hitch on the 2003-2008 DRW F350 is rated as follows:

Weight-Carrying = 6000lb Max Trailer Wgt & 600lb Max Tongue Wgt
Weight-Distributing = 15,000lb Max Trailer Wgt & 1,500 Max Tongue Wgt
Note: If the 2-inch adapter is used the ratings are decreased to:
Weight-Distributing 12,500lb Max Trailer Wgt & 1,250 Max Tongue Wgt.

Check the Rating Sticker on the installed hitch for confirmation.

The Factory hitch on the F150 is rated as follows:

Weight-Carrying = 5000lb Max Trailer Wgt & 500lb Max Tongue Wgt
Weigth-Distributing = 9900lb Max Trailer Wgt & 990 Max Tongue Wgt

A Max Trailer Wgt of 11,000lbs may be towed with Weight-Distributing or 5th Wheel on an F150 Regular Cab, Long Bed, 2WD with the 5.4L, 4.10 gears, 17" 7-Lug wheels & Heavy Duty Towing package Only. However the factory hitch is Not rated for more than 9900lb Max Trailer Wgt so an After Market hitch will be required.

Sorry about that fellas, forgot to mention weight distribution. Just through out the maxes. Switching gears a little, what are the price ranges on a good weight distributing hitch

thanks man, but why do they advertise it to be able to tow 10,900lbs or whatever now? is that with a gooseneck or something?

FMC and all manufactures always advertise the highest rating a particularly configured truck can tow, ie.

"A Max Trailer Wgt of 11,000lbs may be towed with Weight-Distributing or 5th Wheel on an F150 Regular Cab, Long Bed, 2WD with the 5.4L, 4.10 gears, 17" 7-Lug wheels & Heavy Duty Towing package Only. However the factory hitch is Not rated for more than 9900lb Max Trailer Wgt so an After Market hitch will be required."

If you do not have this particular truck configuration then your towing capacity will be less. Just because the truck is rated to tow that amount does not mean the factory tow hitch is heavy enough to tow the load. Since the hitch is an extra you can order the truck without a factory hitch and install a heavier rated A/M hitch. The FMC hitch is desinged to handle the loads of what the majority of F150's can actually tow.

Hope this helps

I got a Reese Sway Control and Weight Distribution I got about $800 bucks in that works awesome on my 30 foot car trailer. I mean it works so well that passing trucks dont even move ya! I will lookup tomorrow at work which one it is, I certainly do recommend it. I dont use it unless I am going on long pulls anyway I am about to have it up for sale. As soon as the 450 comes in I am picking up my new 44 foot Pace Shadow GT Gooseneck and wont be needing it.

here is my question. How does a weight distributing hitch actually work. I know the general idea but how does it actually do it?

sure does, we regularly tow over 10,000 lbs with my dads F150 though, he always refuses to use my 350 for some reason
