86 engine swap

I have an 86 f-350 with a 6.9L and manual transmission. I am thinking about swapping in a 7.3L Powerstroke, but don't know if it's going to work. Will I be able to link a 7.3L to my stock transmission? Would that even be a good idea? Is it even a good idea to trade my 6.9 for a 7.3?

I think both engines have the same bell housing pattern. It would be less hassle to swap in a 7.3 IDI motor, but people have swapped in the 7.3 PSD as well. Another option is to just add a turbo to your 6.9 to get some more power from it.

I have heard the powerstroke has a lot wiring associated with it. So it would be like changing a carbed gas motor to a fuel injection motor, lots of wires and a computer.

If you do this swap what are you going to do with your 6.9? And what kind of shape is it in?
