2001 Ford Escape
The dash warning light for cooling system stays on.....
I read that this was a defect and there is no problem with system.
How do I fix?

 

The coolant light on 01 Escapes is notorious for failing. It is most likely the sender switch located in the coolant tank itself. If the fluid level is okay, but the light is on, that's a pretty good indication of the bad sender switch. The 2 fixes I know of...either replace the coolant tank (switch is embedded in it), or unplug it at the coolant tank. I replaced my tank a couple of years ago and the dash warning light has never come back on.

 

My 2001 Escape had the same problem

 

My '03 did the same. The first time the reservoir was cracked.. the sensor and resy are 1 unit... Cost me about $280 to replace from the dealer.

The second time the light came on the resy was full... I added about .5 liters of bottled water and the light went off. The sensors are very sensitive to very small level changes...
