Leather Seat Care

My first time having leather seats.
Can you people give me a idea of what I need to do and when for taking care of them.
How often do I clean or use a leather conditioner?
What products should I use or not use?
Are the leather "wipes" you see ok to use or what?

Feed Me!!!

Mothers leather wipes work well. Also the Mothers leather conditioner in a bottle. Used both on my 05 screw lariat every few months and after two years, the seats were still like new. Don't forget the steering wheel or it can peel. My 07 KR gets the KR conditioner every few months now. King Ranch seats are definitely more work. Hope this helps.

My wife thought she was doing me a favor and Armor All'ed my standard (non castano) FX4 leather th' other day. Any permanent damage done? They seem fine.

Many of the high end detail shops use Lexol. http://www.lexol.com/lexol.html. I've been using their leather conditioner product on my Volvos for years and have good results. I'll also be using it on my 06 SCAB.

Note that on most auto leather interiors, only the seat and back portion of the chair is leather. The rest is 'pleather' or vinyl (chair sides and back of chair). So while Lexol leather conditioner may seem a tad pricey, you are only conditioning the leather, and won't use that much of the product (i.e. A bottle of Lexol lasts quite a while).

I agree with Lexol. My seats look brand new after 3 years.

I use the Armor All 3 pack. Cleaning wipes, protectant finish and leather finish.

the cleaning wipes get used on everything in the cab

the protectant finish on everything but the seats.

the leather finish is a paste (also can get it in wipes) and about every 2 months I put a light coat on. Used it on my last 3 leather cars and they all held up great. price ain't bad either

Does "regular" Armor All hurt leather? My wife applied the vinyl protectant dash type Armor All to my seats, and I was wondering if that's going to have a bad effect on them, they seem fine so far.

Regular Armor all will dry out the leather causing it to crack down the road. I'm sure one application won't be too bad but you wouldn't want to do it too often.

Hey guys...My driver side seat is already starting to crack a little on the side of the back of the seat where I rub it getting in and out of the truck. My question is...is there anything I can do to stop it from getting any worse?

Thanks.

Also check shoe repair stores, grew up working in my fathers repair store and we used a lot of Lexol, great stuff. 10 years ago we sold it for $7 a bottle, not bad at all, although I am sure it has gone up.

I use Lexol Leather Cleaner about every 2 months. It works great on my seats. I just use the cleaner, I don't use the conditioner. I had a problem with blue pigment from my blue jeans getting onto the leather from sliding in and out of the truck. The Lexol even removes pigment stains.
