Yes, the sintered bronze filter in the carb tends to varnish up if it sits too long. An inline filter between the tank and pump and between the pump and carb is definite overkill and can cause more problems with pressure drop than it would solve. If you are worried about the pump adding gunk, replace the pump or the diaphram instead.
Another mistake is to use too small an inline filter. I like to use one about 1 1/4" in diameter x 2" long, and always clear rather than opaque or metal cased so I can see the fuel flowing thru the filter. Makes it easy to see discoloration from contaminants and even water droplets in the gas.

I definitely would like to find some different wheels for it, although I'm not sure if I want chrome.. I think I've heard the 8 lug pattern from the newer trucks is the same, would be nice to find some takeoffs for cheap. If not, I'll just clean up the wheels that are on there and paint them red or something.

I know how that goes. A set of beauty rings and some chrome lug nuts would go along ways to spruce it up also.

Originally the bed wood was painted body color. New bed wood is available from FTE sponsors. The heater is a factory original, and was an extra cost accessory back then. Was the truck originally red? If so, someone did a pretty good masking job...even protecting the decal on the inside of the glove box door. Dovetone Grey was a factory color in 1954. The paint code on the VIN plate is: E. There were two reds available: Lancer Maroon (J), and Torch Red (R). The maroon was darker. The Custom Cabs came with a left armrest (the right side was an option, as was a right side sunvisor!), but no door panels were offered then. Painted metal was it!
