Unhappy Backup sensor problems

My back up sensors suck on my new 2008 F350 King Ranch DRW! I backed into a telephone pole and never got one beep! It took off my driver's side dually fender. I took it to the Ford dealer and they tested the sensors and they said they are working intermitantly and sometimes not at all. They don't start beeping, either, until something is within 18". They decided to try the same tests on another '08 and the sensors on that truck worked, but not very well, because it only started beeping at about 4 feet. (The manual says the sensors should start working at 6 feet.) They sent a recommendation into Ford to replace the fender and replace the sensors. Within 30 minutes, Ford had responded that the claim was denied due to "Outside Influences" (Whatever that means!?). I've already got a shop getting the new fender installed, so I'm not insisting Ford pays for that, but I'd sure like them to acknowledge that my backup system has a problem. The truck only has 1500 miles on it.

My '04 F350 DRW backup system and my wifes Expedition backup system works perfectly and has a distance of 5-6 feet as well as good detection off to the side about 18". What gives?

Today a tech I met in Phoenix said there's a "radar" unit behind the bumper, too. He said the problem sounds like it might be there. Diesel Dan, any thoughts on this?

Nope. Perfectly clean, Isaac. Have you actually measured how well yours are working? I'd like to get some feedback from other '08 dually owners. Wish they worked like my '04 did.

No sorry, I don't think I'll be much help here. Ive got a 2000 Excursion. But, if you are still curious, I'd be happy to measure the sensors for you.

I'm scared to park without them, so I understand why you want to get them fixed.

Here is a TSB that is for the 04-07 SD, but i don't know why your 08 couldn't be doing the same thing.

Hope this helps
