Energy efficiency grants for homes - are you thinking of doing any upgrades?
Now that the federal gevernment has released the details of it's energy efficiency grants program, I'm looking to do some upgrades. I've been planning these for a while, since my home was built in the fourties and is terribly innefficient.
Probably a new furnace and hot water heater, since I've heard those are the biggest bang-for-buck items.
Sounds really good until you read the fine print (check the book-an-advisor links). Has to have pre- and post- inspections. Preinspection is $300, follow up visits are $150. Better be some #$%^ good grants to offset this stuff!

we built our house super efficient and enviromentally friendly, but fall just outside the time allowed to qualify for a house built before the program came into affect.

Yeah, programs like this aren't really fair in that regard, as they only cover NEW changes.
I'm looking at a new furnace and water heater for my house. I would like new windows, but the rebate is very small and the costs are huge. That will wait.
