How could it be an issue with the truck if it ONLY does it after an oil change? I am truely at a loss. Changing oil is like changing your freakin pants - not too difficult.

Because that's not normal. If you have warranty left take it in. The most noise I've ever heard on any vehicle I've changed oil on is a slight tick when the engine was first started. This tick noise I'm refering to would be common with the ticking noise heard whenever an engine is started that has been sitting for some time. It's just the lack of oil at the lifters making noise before it actual gets to the top end of the engine and that usually last for about 3-5 seconds.

exactly...no knocking, clanking, banging, ....maybe a tick, tick, tick for 3 seconds or something...

my suggestion is if you have a warrenty left to take it to the dealer and explain your problem to them....that way it's documneted and on file....

I have heard such noises on various engines after oil change. I have never seen one come in later needing an engine so I suspect it is nothing to concern yourself with. If you were hearing it on cold startups or during normal operation that is something you should be concerned about.

My 04 5.4 3V has done exactly the same thing after a change since day one until pressure comes up don't worry about it, no oil usage or engine problems, it does kill me to hear it though and it is the first ford I have ever had that did it, but this is small potatoes compared to the spark plug issue!!! Will probably be dumping mine before it goes off extended warranty.

Please hurry and sell your Ford. We could all use a rest.

Moving on (well, at least some of us can)....

I've read all the posts in this thread. Strange that no one has asked this question....

Beefford, do you fill you oil filter before you install it?

If you don't, the pump must fill the filter before it moves to the rest of the engine.

That could explain the knock on start up after an oil change.

Do you all fill your new filters before putting them on? A knock for a few seconds is totally normal. It takes a few seconds to get the pressure built up as someone else previously stated.
