Need help decipering differential codes, and finding hidden VIN locations.
I have a 95 EB Bronco, and the code on the drivers door is illegible, due to some idiot messing with it. I got the codes off of the tag on the diff, but I don't know if I have the open diff or the limited-slip unit. The numbers are:
S838J
3 55 88 SD07
I realize this means it is the 3:55 rear gear, but that's all I can figure out.
I am also wondering if someone with knowledge of where Ford placed the hidden VINs could tell me where to look to find them. I believe the factory manual probably tells you where to look, such as on the frame, or engine, etc, but I can't find it. The reason I need this is because I bought a theft recovery Bronco, where the thief removed the or obliterated the VIN tag on the dash and the drivers door. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

>You have an open differential. If it was limitedslip it
>would have an L in place of the decimal point in the ratio
>like this 3L55. The vin is on top of the right frame rail
>between the cab and front axle.
Thanks for the info, but now i need to know where else the VIN might be located, because it is sanded off in this area.
Sucks when this happens.
