Glow Plug Relay wiring woes

I have another thread on here recently about my friends 6.9 eating glow plugs.
In talking to a guy at the parts store he recommended putting a resistor in the mix and I came home and looked at my old '83 that is waiting for a cab replacement and sure enough, it has a relay with a resistor.
This truck is approximately '85 with a '92-'97 front clip so there is no way to tell what the rebuilders left out.
Not all our IDI's have the resistor.

My friend picked up the part but it turned out to be the Standard RY316 with several wires including the black with a 5/16" (or larger) eyelet and a blue wire with a small plug connector.

If I plug the wires up, Black to black from the harness (eyelet) and the one that was "red" but is now "blue" that comes from my new light and momentary contact switch it won't energize the coil, if I remove the factory (Standard RY316) wires from the coil and place the two truck wires on the control posts, it won't energize the coil. If I use the eyelet and ground to the frame and then use truck wires on coil, new GP light comes on but does not energize coil.

I am not sure what to do. Any thoughts?
