About a month ago I had the head gasket done on my 99 5.4, two weeks later and about 150 miles I was 5 quarts low??? So I sent it back and he under warr. replaced the valve seals on the driverside because he said a few of them where not seating well?? Does that sound right? thanks

5 qts in 150 miles??? That thing would smoke like a freight train or leave huge puddles everywhere. Did he actually ever put any oil in it the first time????

I don't care what you were running, the best $40/qt synthetic (if that existed), burning over 1 oz/mile, you'd be trailing smoke.

Yep, you wouldn't be able to see behind the truck at that rate!! There is no sign of oil in the cooling system is there?

It had to go somewhere.

1. Burned it, but it would have smoked terribly and I don't think you can burn synthetic that quickly...at least the engine wouldn't have run very well and surely your cats are toasted.

2. Leaked out. At that rate, you'd have seen a puddle.

3. Leaked internally. Check your coolant. 5 quarts is a lot, though. Over a gallong of oil can't just go anywhere.

Are you 100% sure there was oil in there in the first place?
It's tough to lose over a gallon of oil so quickly.

Surprised your engine was still running with only 1 qt of oil after 150 miles. Probably wore some of those internal parts pretty good without any oil

of course they aren't going to find anyting. i bet they screwed up and are going to tell you that oil is where those missing socks go. go figure. and after you get it back again, i would thoroughly check everything or invest in having a good reputable 3rd party mechanic have a good look over on your truck.

So the compression test is all over the place and the shop is saying this wasent noticed b4 because the heads where leaking. Now that everthing is tight its leaking through the rings. But they cant explain why is not smoking?? Any thoughts?

you cooked the rings in a couple of cylinders, loosing some compression because of all the scratches, The reason its not smoking is obviosly because its not being burnt at 1 gallon of oil in 2 hrs of driving its basilly running out your tailpipe.
Get a bucket and strp it to the pipe ask ford what in the heck they were doing and prey they give you a new motor.

Really you should have aloss of power if the compression is everywhere and you may have leaked oil into the cooling system. Dont know how bad they mix synthetic and the water but i am sure you would have some signs if it was 5 qts.
