Got A Letter From The EPA

I got a letter from the United States Environmental Protection Agency yesterday. It had "OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT BUSINESS" stamped on the envelope in big red letters. Of course this sets my heart and mind to racing while I try to think why they would be bothering me. Turns out they want to use my 2005 Ranger for some emissions tests on a dyno. They will provide me with a rental car and/or compensate me on a per diem basis. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Never heard of that...maybe they just need to get a new baseline for the Ranger?

Were there options on the thing, like could you say no? lol. I'd say go for it anyways, it's on a dyno so it's not like they're going to wreck your truck, plus rental cars are fun to do stupid things in and take long trips without putting miles on your truck.

Generally, inspections are every 2 years, and yours being a 05' (& this being 07') they are probably looking to verify test data for that year.

I would do it if they asked, but nobody wants an 88'

I hear ya! A couple years ago Roush Performance wanted to use my old '97 Ranger for exhaust system research. I drove the form over and hand delivered it but they didn't want me after they found out the truck had 100k+ miles. Had they used it, they would have put a new exhaust system on it.

Don't do it, they may try to slip Jimmy Huffia's body in there or something, don't trust big brother. They may want your truck to cart off the rest of the Roswell remains. They may even try to slip a tornado in your inatake, or maybe worse, a tb spacer. I wouldn't put nothing past them. Join the goverment witness program or french foreign legon, just hide !!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah right, it's chevy spies posing as the epa trying to steal secerts from ford so they can learn how to build a real compact truck instead of those posers. I just don't feel good about this "buddy', hide the ranger and denie any knoledge that the truck exsists.

I wouldn't participate and you could say you are doing your part to save taxpayers money. It is like the ridiculous e-check we have here in OH.

My agreeing to particpate would be contingent on what the rental car was!

If you fail local emissions test will they pay to fix it?

If you want to know if this is a "real" program & your interested, just call the EPA,or your congressman's office & inquire about the details.

Don't think I've heard of such a program, maybe i's legit, maybe not!!!!

Good way for some folks to come by your Ranger, while they let you drive a "Rent-A-Wreck", for a day, only to find at days end you've been ripped off!!!!
So if you decide to do it, check things out before you let them have it.

Will be interesting to hear what you find out.

just make sure you have comprehensive coverage when you file a claim for theft, when the vehicle is never returned.
besides would you want some kid in your car performing the dyno test.

Jim Huffia? Never heard of him. As for Jimmy Hoffa, he is buried out back in the south 40. just don't tell nobody.

I would be interested to know why the EPA doesn't just look on a used car lot for a '95 to test?

If it's a scam, they sure went to a lot of work to perpetrate it. The EPA has a lab in AA and EG&G has been a contractor with them since at least 1981. Dyno testing is done to simulate real world conditions to determine possible non-compliance with motor vehicle standards. Here is the supporting statement for this program: http://www.epa.gov/icr/icrs/icrpages/0222ss06.htm

Here are the dyno test criteria: http://www.epa.gov/nvfel/testing/dynamometer.htm

Except for a few people with tin foil lined hats or living in remote areas in the Northwest, no one is more suspicious of our government than I am. I don't trust their motives.

Oh, and everyone knows that Jimmy Hoffa is buried under I-696 so that his Teamsters can roll over him.

My replys were all jokes, I dout if it's a scam, even so, I've never heard of such a thing. I would want to know what the deal is and why my ranger, a host of questions. I'm pretty picky about my truck, so I would want some real solid answers. I was just being funny before, I didn't mean to start a goverment conspiricy.
