Car And Driver Pickup Test
#16
I agree with all of you, we didn't buy trucks to win races or to look pretty, unless you have the money to do that. But no one cares who has the fastest 0-60 time and crap like that, the f150 is a car like ride but when u need it to be a truck man its one hell of a truck at that. I wouldn't give my give my truck for anything unless it was a superduty even then i might think twice. Car & Driver doesn't test the vehicles right i mean the titan in 2nd placE?? its the worst selling pick up out there. Give me all of those trucks and let me test them, im sure i'll really put them to the test.

The name of the magazine explains the rankings of the trucks. The winner is clearly the most carlike vehicle of the group.
I ride BMW motorcycles and they are almost never rated highly in comparisons. But when you see motorcycles used in long trips through difficult terrain (Africa, etc) and in long distance competition, they are almost all BMWs. Most of the 20+ year old and 100,000+ miles motorcycles are BMWs.
You can test 0-60 today but time and miles are the true test.

They can rate them how they want, I've driven them all except the new Titan back in December and we see I'm still in a Ford. Most had more power, some had more creature comforts, some had this, some had that, but in the end the Ford was the best package out there for me. Bumping up the HP would only make the F150 that much better.

I was disappointed with the results. Some of the issues would disapper with different options. Who needs the subwoofer that ruins the rear floor storage, for example? The steering column shaking isn't too good...
But, as was said above, the real test of these things would be a long term test. How is it to live and work with these trucks?
One thing I would say that Ford could do would be to take some weight out of the F150, detune a 5.4 and offer it with a 6 speed as a tough, capable truck with decent mpg. Maybe even a rubber mat floor.... Just a thought....
One other thing: Over $40,000......yikes!

if you want fast get a sports car....IF YOU WANT A 1/2 TON TRUCK GET A F-150

All of you guys bring up good points. All I know is that my Expedition is tough as hell. Keeps comin' back for more and has never let me down.
I just read an article about a supercharged Fx2 F-150 Supercab that did 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and the quarter mile just at 94 mph. Not too much quicker than a new Tundra unfortunately. Top speed, though, it hit 166 (drag limited).

The folks at Car & Driver don't like pickups (or truck-based SUVs) as a general rule. They actually make that point in print almost every month (read the editorials). They always pick the one that is the most car-like. They write for a living, not haul building materials or tow heavy trailers, so I guess their bias is understandable. The new Chevy is nice, especially inside, although I'm not crazy about the front end. If there was no Ford, I would consider the Chevy. The Toyota is all new - from the engine to the tranny, nothing is proven yet. A few years ago, that wouldn't have mattered with Toyota's reputation for quality, but they just had their biggest year ever for recalls, a trend with them for the past 3 years or so. Let's see what everyone thinks 5 years from now. The Titan has some nice features, but their reliabilty is several steps down from almost anyone in general, hence their sales decline compared to Toyota. Dodge? The only reason to buy a Dodge is to get a Cummins, and since that isn't available in a 1/2 ton, I don't know why they even produce them. I'm looking for a new truck, and there is only one brand on my shopping list - Ford.

Well put snowdog, well put. I drove a Cummins and although I was impressed with the engine, the transmisison was absolutely horrendous brand new! Next day I testdrove a Powerstroke and mannn was that thing pretty. Once the turbo spooled up it knocked me back in the seat. The transmission was flawless too.
I agree, the new Silverado is pretty nice but I don't get they hype about their new interior. Sure it's an improvement over last generations, but I still believe the Ford has the best interior hands down. Ergonomics are fantastic on my Expedition.
