Refilling the trans fluid through the side mounted refill hole

I have a 1992 F150 with manual trans. I would like to change the trans fluid. What is the best method of getting the new fluid into the side mounted refill hole? Is there a special tool or trick?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I bought a cheap $5 pump that screws into a quart bottle to fill mine. It does take a little time and your hand gets tired, but it's one of the easiest and cleanest methods I've seen.

cheap pump is the way to do it,

you are draining old stuff and putting the correct stuff back in right?

I don't know about the M5OD but my brother was able to refill his ZF by pulling up the boot around the shifter inside the cab. There was a fill hole up there and he just used a funnel. Food for thought.

When i did mine last, I used this deal that is almost exactly like a graese gun. mater a fact it was a grease gun tube, but it had a long hose on one end, and there was a plunger inside. did about a 1/3rd to a 1/2 a quart at a time, it sucked a lot of air. It was really handy for my transmission, but it was easier to do the 80/90 for the rear end the second tmie outa the fill can.

When i top my tranny or otehr things off in back, i have an old can lying around that i use the spout on the top of it on a quart can, and throw on a clear plastic fill tube.
With the transmission and rear end, you can get it up there just right where it will gravity drain into the tranny.

Cheap and easy:

- remove the fill plug and go to the hardware store. Buy a few feet of clear plastic tubing that will fit into the fill hole (use plug for comparison). Make sure you have a funnel that fits the other end of the tube. Route this tube to the fill hole through the engine bay.

It helps a lot get the gear oil warm (by that I mean 70f or more, but not hot). It will pour a lot better warm.

a good way to warm oil or additives is to heat water to boiling in microwave and immersing bottle of fluid in the water.

of course taking proper precautions during this.

i disagree with the funnel, if you are working from underneath it makes it hareder to do.

for 3 dollars to buy a pump you really have no savings by just using a tube and funnel. imho.

I tried that once, and the $3 pump I picked up was so cheap it completely failed to work.

Otherwise, I agree with you. If you can find a cheap pump that actually works, it's the easiest way.

I got a pump from Napa that fits a 5 gal bucket For around 20 bucks and can last a lifetime. Move the pump from the 90w bucket to the ATF bucket to the what ever bucket. And always have plenty around to change and keep all your rigs full. I live a 100 miles from the closest store so having plenty is a motto around here. LOL
