Yes, I'm going for all the stock colors, so the red IS sort of striking against the green. As I understand, the vermillion red trucks had the same unusual green engine scheme as all the others, so it's authentic. I kind of like it. I never figured out what the inner fenders were originally painted, black or silver, so I'm just going with satin black. The firewall is body color, so should all be very interesting to look at.

Thanks for the compliment on the engine. I'm actually most excited with what we did to the mechanicals. My uncle is an old racer and an absolute engine genius, and I got him interested in tricking out the old 6. We couldn't find .030 215 pistons, so we went up to 223 bore. We decked the block and head so the compression went from 7:1 to 9:1. My uncle ported the head on the flow bench and Dema Elgin of Elgin cams designed and reground a streetable but slightly more aggressive cam. The computer simulator with all the flow bench data says that stock probably put out 96hp. It was rated at 101hp from the factory, so that's probably correct. The predicted hp now is 146 even with the tiny little carb. If the bank account ever recovers from the whole restoration, the next move would be a 2 or 3 carb Offy manifold. Won't set any land speed records, but will probably make me giggle like a little girl...

And, as far as valve cover color, this truck did have a darker valve cover which contrasted. I've heard told that this was because the long block and the covers were from different assembly shops at the factory, and Ford just did that contrasting thing a lot anyway. Who knows.... I'm going with Kevin's advice, though. Gonna get a green that looks like I think it was supposed to 54 years ago and go with it.

Thank all of you for your help. You bubbas on this board rock!!! The beast ain't gonna make it to the Supernats this year, but hope to see some of you next year!! There will be NO trailers involved! And the gallery has the latest pics of the whole heap. I finally got the chassis reassembled this weekend after the whole blasting/POR15/rebuild/disc brakes/swaybars dance, too. I'll keep the gallery updated.

Thats the ticket. Pics look good in the gallery especially the ones with the kids standing around the engine. All I need to do now is find a car trailer like yours and I would be set. Keep up the good work.

Kevin
