1998 F-150: Rebuild 4.6L or swap-in a 5.4L?
1998 Ford F-150 Regular Cab/Short Bed 4.6L 4R70 4x4
I've got a bud who found out awhile back that his head gasket is bad on one side or the other, and it's leaking oil into the coolant.
With almost 170k on the clock, he wants to try and rebuild it instead of buying a re'man. We've already pulled the motor, and now he's trying to decide if he wants to rebuild his 4.6L or swap in a 5.4L.
Which would be best?
I know on a 5.0L-to-5.8L swap in a 92-96 F-Series, you keep the original harness and all; you only swap out the computer.
Is this the same with the newer 4.6L and 5.4L? If so, he'd be better off moving up, wouldn't you agree? Also, are the bellhousings the same?
Thanks.
