ultra low sulfur diesel

This is what I'm wondering. What ever happened to the disclaimer at the pump that said ULSD might harm rigs older rigs and don't use ULSD in them. Only safe for 2007 trucks and newer.
Did they up the amount of there mysterious additivies? For the amount of money we pay on fuel I would like to know the chemical composition and products the supposedly add to our fuel.
Maybe I think about things a little different, but I see my truck as an investment and want the best for it.

It was on the LCD & said 2007 trucks couldn't use it. Fuel companies nor the manufacturers have never said that ULSD will hurt any older truck. Just people that are trying to sell you supliments have said it *MIGHT* cause some problems. They then go on to give you the same list they gave you when LSD came on the market.

Hi
I have been runnung the ulsd for months now in a 95 7.3 psd with 350000 on the clock. no fuel leaks but my lines were new 2 years ago. only issue i have is my mpg has dropped from 14 to 12 at best in my daily driving. my wifes 02 excusion with the 7.3 has had no issues either except the same milage drop. my trucker buddies say fuel economy is about 20% less with ulsd.

I get my fuel through these guys (http://hampeloil.com/) and I am still getting 18 mpg.
I found out that they are still using #2 with additives and it has been ulsd since August last year.
So far I have been lucky and haven't had any fuel leaks yet!!

Well, I have ran two fill ups of the ULSD through my truck, and guess what! I have a fuel leak that was not there when I serviced the truck about a week before the initial fill up with ULSD. It seems to be coming from on top of the intake aroud what appears to be a banjo fitting?? It creates a puddle of fuel on top of the intake. Any suggestions. Thanks!

I have a good friend at Austin Fuel Injection and performance here in Austin TX. He has been covered up with injection pumps on Dodges and tons of fuel leaks on the Strokes. Their recipts state at the bottom that the pump manufacturers will NOT warrenty any pumps killed by ULSD. I don't know how they can do that, but okay. My buddy say that all the fuel leaks are caused by the ULSD drying up the o-rings. He says it takes the "Aromatics out of the rubber, or viton". He told me, that any o-rings replaced and run on ULSD will not have a problem. It's just making the switch that messes up the orings. Once they are changed it should be okay. I run Standyne in every tank, since I don't know when, and I thought that it would exempt me from leaks. Not true. Petcock leak, and water in fuel vaccum switch have been my culprits so far. And I'm not 100% certain that my pump isn't leaking. Just my .02

We just started getting ulsd as of 01-07 everywhere in the stl mo area and wouldn't ya know it. I have a FUEL leak now. I have to replace all of the lines and FP. I just replaced the fuel filter on 01-01-07. You should see how nasty the filter is now. I checked it just for the heck of it cuz of the leak. This is not a good thing by any means. I also lost mpgs...18 to 15. ouch!

Old thread, but I wanted to chime in anyway.
I have noticed a drop in fuel economy by using the highly accurate "the fuel gauge moves faster than before" method. I am in the process of measuring it right now but I haven't burnt an entire tank yet. I was getting 21mpg before, I am guessing I am right around 15 now, but it is probably my phobia. That measurement was also on straight #2 as well, so it isn't an apple to apple anyway.
We have had ULSD for a long while now. My fuel pump went out and a hose started leaking. However, it is hard to say it was because of the fuel and not the 220,000 miles. You really don't know. I did tear down the injectors after running on USLD for about 4 months and I didn't find any visable wear. I didn't mic anything, but I couldn't see any damage.
I have had a few bad issues with fuel clouding this winter. It never gelled because of the anti-gell additives, but it clouded on me quite a few times. There are many contributors to this, and once again it is hard to just blame it on the fuel, but it did seem to occur more recently. More recently being it has never happened before... I put pure diesel in a clear bottle to see what temperature it clouded at, and I got at about 20 degrees. Considering I could see the particles, that would plug a filter, which makes this a little high reading IMO.
I haven't been adding any lubrication additives and I doubt I will.

I've read a few older threads in here and all say Sulfur helps lubricate the injectors and the fuel system so today I put sulfur additive in both my tanks. Around here the pumps are saying LSD, plus it's good for 2007 and older diesel engines. Not all that sure on that issue plus if higher sulfur fuel is better for the engine why don't the oil companies just have the newer diesel engines put some additive in their tanks to lower the sulfur. I'm sure there are far less 07 and up models on the road than older diesel engines plus farm machinery. Just my .02 cents but what do I know I'm a jet engine mechanic in the Navy
