Replacing stolen truck!!

My '03 7.3 was stolen the day after Thanksgiving. This was my 3rd 7.3, and I have been fairly happy with 7.3's. Now I am going to replace it with a (oh, no) used truck. I have been looking at '03's and '04's, and most of the '03's have the 6.0. Is there anything I should be concerned with on these early 6.0's? I know the first edition of the '99 7.3 had troubles. What about the new auto trans for the 6.0?
Thanks for any advice!!

I know some of the early 6.0L had issues, but they have been worked out..

Check out the 6.0L tech folder for more info on problems.

If you do find one that you're interested in, perhaps you should get one of us to run the VIN for you to see if it's been a troublesome truck.

Okay, Canada could you check this VIN out for me - 1FTNW21PX4ED63426. I've been looking for a 7.3 but nobody seems to trade them in. Plenty of 6.0 to choose from though.

avoid 03

I would stay away from 03' and would contact previouse owner of 04 and run oasis report before buying. I had one of the first 03 and it was absolute junk. I currently have and 06 with 11,000 miles with new turbo, new egr, and various noises. Other than that it seems fairly decent. I can tell you regardless of what people say the durmax will out pull it and I am fairly sure my 04 dodge cummins would out pull it also. Do not expect great and big things from the 6.0 because I fell it is probably one of Fords biggest failures. Some times you get a good one, sometimes a bad one. Good luck. Let the bitching begin!

I see you are from White Lake. About a month ago they stole 2 7.3 F-350's right
out of my work at Detroit Diesel at lunch time. One was a 2000 and the other a 2001. They were never found. One of the workers followed the 2001 down I-96
to the Wyoming exit and called the Detroit police. They didn't care and the truck got away. Might be the same scumbags???

1979Mustang,
Yeah, things are getting pretty bad here in Michigan. Mine has been vandalized 3 times in the driveway(stolen center caps, Powerstroke and Ford emblems, scratched paint) and a guy across the street lost his earlier F250 a week before mine was stolen, but they recovered his from some drug dealers in Pontiac. I thought I had moved far enough away from the urban scum, but I guess not. I just paid mine off in October, and I am not interested in any more payments. I'll find a nice low mileage used truck.

I am interested in a nice '03 King Ranch with a 6.0, but it has 180k on it. It has a build date of 2/03. I was originally told to stay away from the 03's and look for an '04 built after 1/04. If someone could check the vin, I would appreciate it.

I just got my '03 back from the Ford dealer where they put a remanufactured Torqshift in it. When I talked to the tech, he said he has never seen an early torqshift with 102,000 miles on it (what my truck has). He said all of the early TS trannys go well before that. I personally don't tow a lot with my truck so that probably helped, but I had never heard on this forum that the TS was THAT bad.

My engine has a 01/03 build date on it so it is really early. I have had only 3 issues with the 6.0 in my truck - turbo pedstal (drone), leaky Y-pipe, and two injectors replaced at 98,000. All of this was done under warranty. All of the other stuff that has been done to my truck (and there is a lot!) has not been related to the 6.0L.

BPofMD,
I don't quite understand. What do you mean it can't have any problems with 180k on it? I remember hearing about LOTS of problems during the first year of production. Or are you being sarcastic???

It has not spent much time at dealers at all. Current recalls have not been performed. As for history beyond the past year, I can't check it untill Monday, seems there is some system maintenance going on at Ford.
