NEW YEARS EVE. Traditional time to lose your lisence....
STUPID SEASON - right down to a TEE....
Now - we see this every year, watch it go down by the numbers....
Car or truck, PLUS party, PLUS gotta git home....
Can you hear the sirens already, and see the blue and white lights?
Lets do our best this year to win out over stupidity, apathy, cheating the odds, and all the rest of the excuses that kill people and cost folk we know their privelege to drive....
NOTE: It IS NOT a right. It's a privelege....
Tote up the price of what it is these days and it ain't no joke!
Let's get serious and not do this anymore...
WE KNOW THE POLICE ARE WATCHING MORE THAN EVER on that one night.
I myself am just going to stay home. I have a fine dog, I can stock up, and I can be online right here with everyone I really care about.
You can have family over, they can STAY!
Ain't no reason to wreck your future, is there?
Think about it.
IF YOU DRINK -DO IT RIGHT!
Else it costs way too much, and then some...

True words, Wolf. I get to be the one that night who hauls those idiots to the hospital when they screw up. I don't care if people want to get drunk, hell, I tip quite a few myself. It's the ones that go out and kill an innocent person because they had to drive drunk that I have a problem with. If you go out and drink, get a DD, or take a cab. Period. Vehicular homicide ends a lot more lives than the initial victims.

Well, I will admit I did some stupid things in my teenage and college days but that is 15+ years ago and I have kids now. Not to mention, my son was born on Jan 1, so there is no real desire on my part to be drunk the night before and hung over the whole day.
And, I have no desire to be on the road that night anyway and give the drunk drivers a target!
I use to deliver newspapers early in the morning to supplement the household income. At 4:00 in the morning my biggest fears were drunk drivers follwed by deer in the road bringing up a far second place.

The DPS and Sheriff's Deputies will be on heightened watch along my rural highway shortly because of possible New Year's drunk drivers. Generally hear more sirens this time of year anyway.
I am glad my son has Sunday and Monday off from being a Park Ranger. He gets up at 4:30 am to be at work by 6. It can be hairy enough sometimes driving in the dark so early on holiday weekends with people driving back to Phoenix from the River. The Semi Truck drivers aren't so bad he says....it's the youngsters weaving in an out between them trying to pass them at the stupidest times (i.e. passing on the uphill). Or the weekenders with their boats, trailers or even a few snowbirds.
State Hwy 72 has some windy and up/down areas between milepost 27 (Bouse itself) to the Junction of 72&95 where 72 becomes 95 West to Parker.. Then from there it's through Parker to the County Park on the river. A total of about 75 miles.

My wife and I stay home every year for new years. While we are very responsible people. If one drinks the other don't if we have to drive. The problem is. You can do everything right but not everyone else does. It's just not safe out there. Might as well just play with a loaded gun. Our children and family are too important. So we stay off the roads entirely.
Happy new year to all here and be safe and healthy.
