If you will e-mail me the picture you want posted I will attempt to put it up for you.

Is this a tool you will make available to the consumers or is it just for dealers?
Any info on cost or how we can find out about it?

You have to remember these plugs were first used in 2003 and techs weren't aware of the problem until the vehicle already had to many miles. If you change the plugs before 50k miles your probably safe.they have broke at 40k.
Yea in that sense, warranty cant cover if there is no warranty. If you change your plugs when your truck is out of warranty and 1 breaks you have to fix it or pay to fix it. If you take it to a dealer and unless they tell you before hand that in case of a breakage you have to pay to remove the head they can not charge you. I'm not going to say that dealers have'nt tried to charge cause I'm sure some has. Simple fact is, it was'nt broke when it whent in the shop. It cant come out broke.

Ok, I have a question. I bought an 08 Screw, and my maintenance guide says the plugs don't need changed until 90k miles. Everyone keeps saying 30k. What's correct? I used to work for Ford a couple of years ago, and we'd do the plugs at 60k for most of the vehicles that would come in for service. Did they make changes between 06 and 08 negating the need to change the plugs so early? I know they recommend oil changes at 7500k now instead of 5k, and it runs on 5W-20...Comments? Suggestions?

As far as I know there was a change in the plugs in 2008. A friend that is a Ford Tech did have plugs break at 40k on a 2004. But it usually is after 50k. The problem is, alot of people thought they didn't need a plug change until 100k starting with the 2003 year and waited until there was many miles and that is a big problem now.

I once caught the mechanic at a big Ford dealer faking changing #8 spark plug on my '97 F150 (311,000 miles now). I'm sure he wasn't the only one to come up with that time and labor saving idea. Changing spark plugs used to be a routine job, no particular problem, now they made it so you can barely get at them.

I hope Ford fixes that for '09. So far they haven't, though.

Its not a matter of changing your plugs. I'm saying clean your plugs. The 3V head's plugs are having problems w/ the ground shield sticking to the head. Where the threads and ground shank come together actually come apart. In the beginning we saw spinners which is just a step before it breaks. All this right between 25-30K miles. I checked my 05 at 18K and I had deterating starting. My wife's 07 did'nt have any problems that I can remember. I've been out of the loop since I traded my 05 for my 04 superduty. I think around the summer of 05 ford started using a newer plug but the same design. The dealership changed out my 05's under warranty. I did'nt keep the truck so I dont know how that plug has fared. On my wife's truck every 3rd oil change I pull her plugs and clean 'em up. I put anti seize on them. Again the use of anti sieze was a big decission back then. As to wither to use it or not. I do and it seems to help. Last year I bought my wife an 07 mustang GT. It also has the 3v heads. I'll do the same thing to it also if it has the same plugs.
The 100,000 mile plug change is older than 03. My 97 F150 5.4L had a 100,000 mile plug change. It done it fine. I have'nt heard any info stateing that the 3v plugs wont last 100,000. Its just getting them out with the carbon buildup and the unsimalur metal thing that makes it bugger to deal with.
Take this for what its worth. You decide whats best for you. Its takes me maybe 30 minutes to pull the plugs and clean 'em up. Gives me peace of mind. The truck has I think 69K on the clock now. It still runs like the day we got her.

Other topics say it's a redesigned head, and a normal plug now. I'll pull one next weekend to take a look.

I have an 04 with 72000, I don't think my plugs have ever been changed. What should I do(no warranty).

Well, your heads are probably going to have to come off when you change them due to the design. They HAVE fixed the problem now (at least on my engine which was built on 231107) and mine uses a completely normal looking sparkplug. No more of the 6" plugs. But, if yours is running good right now, I'd leave the plugs alone until you need to change them. My 2002 plugs have never been changed, and I have over 130,000 miles on it. I bought it with 110,000 miles on it, and the guy who owned it has never changed the plugs. I told myslef I'll run it until I need to change them since the heads will probably have to come off of it.

Broken electrode nightmare

Went to change the spark plugs at 50K, #7 broke inside the head, did not have a tool to try to get it out, took it to the dealership, they have soaked it for 30 hrs but is not coming loose; so now the next step is to pull the head off and send it to a machine shop to clean the thread, now the bill suddenly grew to $2,600.
There is always a first time, looks like now it was mine.
Now they are adding a "anti-seize" compound at the factory and changed the design, I hope it works.
