Running/idling rough ....sometimes

My '95 with a little over 112K fell on it's face the other day, started running rough (CEL came on) with not enough power to get out of it's own way.I let it sit for a couple of days before starting it and for 30 to 45 seconds it ran fine, then started acting up again and the CEL came on.I've started it a few times since and same thing happens over and over.Anyone had this happen?Any ideas where to start looking?

Thanks,
Lanny

Did you do anything different in the week or so before i.e. change the oil change any thing? I agree with "D" check out the plugs and wiring and pins inside and out of the valve covers. if no joy let us know. Is it a manual transmission?

Yes,it's a manual.Changed the glow plugs maybe 2 weeks before it started acting up.

I am gonna say that when you changed the glow plugs you could of had an injector wire bump a rocker arm and it took that long to wear through, or you may have had connector come loose inside the valve cover, so you are getting a short to one or more of your injectors. Pull the valve covers and you will probably find your problem. Do not however rule out your DMF on your manual tranny, but I am not leaning that direction.

DMF has been gone for awhile.Besides this is a problem with the engine running/idling rough with no power, sounds like it's running on 6 or 7 cylinders.......maybe fewer.

Can anyone explain why it runs fine for 30 to 45 seconds before it starts "missing"?Engine oil level is well into the safe zone.

Yeah probably an under valve cover wire issue, I saw a link to some replacement parts for that I am doing a search right now.

maybe your hpop is not putting out enough psi. Try doing a compression check on it also.

Now it's running rough when it first starts and sometimes will smooth out after running for a few minutes.I need to know which bank cylinders 1,3,5 &7 are on,driver's side or passenger.
