1 bbl keeps flooding!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just replaced my 1 bbl holley on my 58 223. It was flooding before replacement so I put an in line profuel regulator(1-5 psi). When I put the new one on it works fine for awhile and then it just floods the daylights out of it. I've even adjusted the float but again it floods all the way to the top. The only thing I can think that it might be is the fuel pump is pushing too much.(I had to spot weld a 1/4" piece on the arm to make it work.) But again I put the regulator on it. Some one please help my FOrd from drowning!!!!!!!!

Are you using a mechanical pump? If so my vote would be dirt in the fuel line or tank is jamming open the needle valve.

If you are using an electrical pump maybe the same and/or too much pressure. and a regulator (as you tried) is needed. Remember the electric pumps sold today are mostly for FI engines and need lots of pressure. Make sure the spec is right and of course there is a possiblity that the pums internal regulator is bad and it is running wild.

let us know what you find - I love mystries

1 bbl keeps flooding!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the float OK? Could it be leaking and filling with gas? Does the float move freely without binding? (What do you call the piece that the float lifts up, that acts as a valve?) Anyway, does that thing move freely? Does it seal properly when it's in the closed (chamber full) position?

Have you measured the fuel pressure (some vacuum gauges double as fuel pressure testers)?

once again I tahnkk yall for your input. I took apart my regulator and the rubber seal seemed to have slipped. I put it back together and it worked fine for awhile but I think it's a hopeless case. SO I plan on just going electric with it. Thanks again yall...
