2wd spring towers on 4wd frame

I'm in the process of sticking a crown vic front suspension on my 68 F100, and to do that you must get all the stock I-beam parts out of the way. After getting the 2wd spring/shock tower off, I compared it to my 72 4wd spring/shock tower. The 2wd one is about 2-3 inches shorter and maybe inch wider. It also has two spots for mounting dual shocks. To me it looks very similar to ones I've seen on second gen broncos. Has anyone heard of using the 2wd mount on a 4wd? Looks like a real easy way to get 2-3 inches of lift and I need it because I'm going to be using an 89 KP dana 60 in the front of the 4x4....thanks
