Shift kit on 4R70W? Worth anything? Newbie to shift kits here >.<

I have heard that a programer robs the cooling passages of fluid in order to raise pressure for the shift this is why shift kits are still in use for this tranny today. On the same note i've seen shift kits destroy transmitions as well.Half a dozen of one six of another if you ask at the speed shop.I have a factory tech kit because it's only $80 since a programer is $400 and won't do much for my 98.

You can get a valve body or a separator plate (slightly less than a VB, does the same thing).
Many, many Lightning guys use the FTVB with great results.
I know a lot of modded guys, they all run the FTVB or separator plate.
I have an Art Carr VB, if I could do it over again I'd get the separator plate.
Quicker shifts help longevity. Less heat build-up from shift overlap and slippage.
For ultimate longevity, many of the guys with heavy mods believe that altering shift firmness mechanically (via a VB or separator plate) is better than upping line pressure electronically (via a chip/programmer.
Personally, I don't know of any failures from altering shift firmness electronically, but I don't know a lot of guys with heavy mods who do this, either.
I also recommend a tranny cooler, even if you ahve a factory one. Tranny temps can get hot with these heavy trucks.

If you get one go for the medium or light shift mod during installation. The full race setting makes it feel like the bodies being ripped off the frame(no kidding). You will also have to get a new acc belt cause it will squeal and maybe even a diaper. It slapped me around like i was back in the stang and this is almost a stock truck.Great when your pissed at the wife while shes doing her makeup in the truck.I was actually horrified it woud break and had to have it removed and set to light which is nice although now im thinking medium.I have the "b" plate.
Now i'm about to go from 3::55 to 4:10 rear gears which is going to be fun!
