I would own either one. I did buy a 2006 6.0. Great motor. Love it, no issues. If I were buying a 2008 and had a choice, I would get the 6.4 More HP and Torque. Faster spooling turbo. The unknown is a little scary though. What will it get for mileage? My guess is that motor has been tested so thoroughly, there will be no longevity issues. A friend of mine just closed his business due to lousy market conditions. He has a 2003 6.0 with about 110k on it. He wanted to buy it from the business but the auction guy kept bugging him not to. (He gave him a check for about 650K for all the assets) Now he is going to the auction to hopefuuly buy it back. Replaced one egr valve in 110k. Not too shabby for a dreaded 2003 6.0 I told him I'm going to go to the auction to buy it.

Thats better ......

I think the 6.4 is going to be mod friendly in my opinion. Now I know not everyone likes that idea but I am

Just having some fun since it has been dull around here, no offense. I want to see the truck in person then I'll make my decision.

There is not a car or truck on the road these days that should not be able to get a 110K. Heck I consider a toyota truck new if it has that many miles. Get back to me when it has 300k.

Should and reality are two different things. I have had a lot of vehicles in my time and a few of them have had a LOT of issues by 110k. If you read some internet posts about the 6.0 this truck should had 7 turbos, 3 new motors and 15 egr valves by now, besides leaking 5 quarts of oil per day.

I would take the 6.4.. They said that it is better at altitude and I live at 5900 feet and drive the mountains alot.. I would love to have the '08 ford truck with a nice Lbz dmax/alli combo, thats if I had the choice of picking and choosing...

I'd agree with this. My '06 has been trouble free, and runs great. But, I'd probably go with the new 6.4. I'm liking the torque/HP numbers!

6.4L

Since I'm in no rush to go out and buy a new SD, I'll sit on the sidelines a year or two (or three) and see how the new engine/ULSD works out.

I'm going to go for the 6.4. I have been staying away from diesels for 10 years now ever since I got rid of my 7.3. Had too many problems in the winter with it. They have improved over the years and now with the cab auxillary heater I'm going to give it a try. Not too concerned with problems as it has been tested for 10 million miles now. Dealer says they don't expect to be even remotely close to the issues they had when the 6.0 came out. Not saying it's going to be flawless either, but they don't want to go down that road again. If it doesn't work out I'll just go back to a V-10 as I love it. Just hurts every summer when they jack up the price of gas when I'm doing the majority of my towing. They are going to have a private viewing at the dealership when the first 2008 arrives next year. Can't wait to see it.

As for the availability of the new ULSD we have it at the pumps up here so I can't see it being a problem. Have a look on the map and see where Fort McMurray Alberta is. If we have it all the way up here I would think by the time the trucks are out it will be everywhere as we are in the middle of nowhere.

I believe if I had a choice I would stay with a 6.0L.
I would like to know if Ford has trained the technicians on this new engine? I believe that lack of training was a huge problem with the fielding of the 6.0L. Hopefully for Fords sake the 6.4L fielding will go much better than the 6.0L.

ive owned 4 ford trucks. all with different motors. 2 gas and 2 diesel. 302 v8, 4.6 v8, 7.3L and now a 6.0L. and i have never had a problem! so at this point in the game i have no problem trusting ford with the new engine. 6.4 for me

i have the same question ford is buying back my 2006 f250 because of a oil leak they did not fix for 42 days i got the papers today so the question is do i get the 2007 or wait for 2008
the dealer says they hope to have the order sheet by the end of nov 2006to order the truck and 6-8 weeks after that maybe jan or at the latest feb 2007
but it is a crap shoot i cant get the color for 2007 because ford has stopped making the true blue color for 2007 so i cant order it with all the goodies
that is why the dealer said wait for the 2008 but they cant tell me all the option or colors yet if the 2008 come out so soon you would not even get a year of value out of a 2007 then the question is how much is the 2008 going to cost ?

I wouldn't think it would be that much more. They seem to bring the increases in slowly. When the 05 Mustang came out everyone thought there would be a hugh increase. There was a modest (sp?) increase that was followed by others over time that gradually brought up the price. I would guess they would do the same with the new truck. They can't have a sudden large price increase and stay competitive. Just MHO.

By the was I am wanting Blue as well as I don't like the current light blue. The blue shown on the demo F450 would match my fifth wheel perfectly.

Talking

Sorry so long to reply. Interior aside, I would take my chances with the 6.4. In all honesty, I've never owned a diesel truck to compare it too, I only own gas trucks. That's why I'm on this forum. I have friends with duperdutys and they like the trucks. They just wish it wasn't in the shop so much. IMO, it seems like a "hit-and miss" with the 6.0's. Either you got a good one that runs like a champ, or you got a lemon that is always running back the the dealership for repairs! If the price doesn't go too far through the roof, I'm getting an 08 sd and will let you guys know what happens. Cross your fingers for us '08 guinnea pigs!!!!!
