Hope to take out the seat this coming week but one thing is different on my truck. I am not getting any lights on my console switch at all. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Planet89, if you look at the wiring diagram, you will see that there are two circuits feeding the heaters. One circuit is for the controls (probably the light also) and one for the heater. The control circuit pulls in a relay that sends juice to the heater elements. The relay is what you hear clicking under the seat.

No light, no clicking, could be open control circuit, bad 15 amp fuse, bad switch or bad relay.

Light and clicking, no heat, could be bad heater element, open circuit wiring, or bad 30 amp fuse.

I hope this helps

I would love to see any pictures you may have, did you pull the seat out or can you remove the bottom seat cover with it in the truck? I got the front part unhooked but wasn't sure if I could get the rest of the seat cover loose

It is a whole lot easier to pull the seat and take it inside for the repairs..IMO

I've got a 2000 Excursion LTD 4x4 that the heated seat on the drivers side quit working a while back. I do remember it getting hotter than usual in one spot about the time it went out. This thread is great as I also thought I'd have to replace the heating element and as stated, they aren't cheap.

I'm not that great at reading electrical diagrams but I am pretty handy with electrical wiring so I plan to get this fixed myself, but I have a couple questions.

1) The description of removing the lower leather seat cover is good but could someone add just a bit more detail on how it comes off.

2) The heating element in the lower part of the upper (back support) part of the seat doesn't work and I'm am assuming it is in series with the entire seat heating system?

3) The way mine heated up I'm assuming the wire started to break and created more resistance and heat which is why mine got overly hot in one spot right before it quit?

4) Finally - I'm a big guy and with the weight bouncing around on the seat I can see how these wires can give out, but I'm curious if after applying this fix has the warmer continued working without quitting again.......I guess I'm wondering how probable it is that other wires are on the verge of breaking and ultimately there may be a life expectancy for these things??

Thanks - Dan

I did my fix over three years ago and I still have full, even heat on the seats. I think the connector wire is the only weak link. I think the heat pads themselves are quite tough.

Have you found a source for the element, in case you need to get one?

I am frustrated with the seat heater, and it looks like I need a new element. Any suggestions as to where to get that?
Thanks,
Jim

You're welcome. I recently had to do this fix on the passenger side of the Ex. Worked like a charm there as well.

My brother has a '05 Impala that the driver's seat stopped heating. Soon we are going to tear it apart and se if it is the same issue as his seats have a thigh rest like ours do.

I don't know the measurements off-hand, but these might work...

New GM 12V 14W Heating Pads For Heated Car Seats TRUCK - eBay (item 170237262861 end time Mar-04-09 17:06:57 PST)

But, a little pricey in my opinion...

Heated seats

That time of the year so I am just bumping this up but I wonder why a element would cost $400 and is there an aftermarket one?
