Help with heated seats

Planet89, if you look at the wiring diagram, you will see that there are two circuits feeding the heaters. One circuit is for the controls (probably the light also) and one for the heater. The control circuit pulls in a relay that sends juice to the heater elements. The relay is what you hear clicking under the seat.
No light, no clicking, could be open control circuit, bad 15 amp fuse, bad switch or bad relay.
Light and clicking, no heat, could be bad heater element, open circuit wiring, or bad 30 amp fuse.
I hope this helps

I've got a 2000 Excursion LTD 4x4 that the heated seat on the drivers side quit working a while back. I do remember it getting hotter than usual in one spot about the time it went out. This thread is great as I also thought I'd have to replace the heating element and as stated, they aren't cheap.
I'm not that great at reading electrical diagrams but I am pretty handy with electrical wiring so I plan to get this fixed myself, but I have a couple questions.
1) The description of removing the lower leather seat cover is good but could someone add just a bit more detail on how it comes off.
2) The heating element in the lower part of the upper (back support) part of the seat doesn't work and I'm am assuming it is in series with the entire seat heating system?
3) The way mine heated up I'm assuming the wire started to break and created more resistance and heat which is why mine got overly hot in one spot right before it quit?
4) Finally - I'm a big guy and with the weight bouncing around on the seat I can see how these wires can give out, but I'm curious if after applying this fix has the warmer continued working without quitting again.......I guess I'm wondering how probable it is that other wires are on the verge of breaking and ultimately there may be a life expectancy for these things??
Thanks - Dan

My brother has a '05 Impala that the driver's seat stopped heating. Soon we are going to tear it apart and se if it is the same issue as his seats have a thigh rest like ours do.
