I just pulled my '61 f100 in the garage today and I noticed that the right side of the motor was wet.When I looked closer I could see that between the head and the block it was bubbling in two spots,near the back and the front. Can I pull the head off and replace the gasket with out having to readjust the lifters?The motor is a 223. Thanks for the help.

i'm not sure but i don't think you would have to if you didn't mess with anything inside the head but i'm not a mechanic so don't take my word for it but it sounds like it wouldn't mess up the adjustment of your lifters.

As you pull the head off, be carefull not to pinch or bend your existing pushrods. When the head is off, take these pushrods out one by one and do a drawing so you remember which one went where. Put them back in the SAME holes they came out of and make sure they are all properly under the lifters before you bolt the head back on. It should be the same as it was before.Some one to help you with this would make it alot easier!

I always use the flap from the new head gasket box mark the front and poke the apropriate number of holes for the push rods this way they don't get mixed up. Also use a straight edge and feeler gauges to check for head warpage if you end up having to machine the head you'll have to readjust the valves. good luck hope I helped.
