I just installed a new engine into my truck. I pulled the engine from a running econoline van. When i test-fired the engine i didn't notice it running because of a couple carb problems. Now that i have the engine in my truck its loping. I'm not sure if i have the timing wrong, or what but it has a definate lope to it at idle. And the exhaust definately smells rich. I just rebuilt the carb tonite and it still does it.
So i'm kind of stumped, but it does sound nice at idle.
It could have an aftermarket cam in it. My fresh 300 has a comp cams 260H cam in it and at about 700 rpms it has a nice lope with a flowmaster 40 series on it. After 1000 rpms thought it starts to smooth out.
Thats about how this one is too. I didn't bother to check the cam out when i had it apart to put new gaskets in. Though i did notice i had steel timing gears, so it might be possible.
Thats also possible too, as soon as i can i'm going to try and replace the intake manifold gasket again. I know its new, but anything is possible. Hopefully that takes care of the problem, as everything else has been replaced that is vacuum related.
