F150 Fuel Mileage vs gear ratios?
Little help...
What are 2WD 5.4 ltrs getting with 3.55's vs 3.73's. I am thinking about going back to a 150 from a 250 PSD. I would really like the 20's (wheels) but they only offer them with the 3.73's. IF that means 3-4 mpg less then I will stick with the 3.55's and the 18's.
Have any of you folks purchased the Supercrew with the 6.5 ft bed.
Does it ride better?
Just looking...

You won't even notice it. Maybe unless you are towing or going uphill. I have 3.55's with aftermarket 275/55/20 tires and wheels and it just doesn't have the lowend. I am going to get 4.10's to really wake my tuck up and make it even better than stock. Between 3.55's and 3.73 is about a difference of 100-150rpm in 3rd on a automatic tranny. When I go from 3.55 to 4.10 it will raise my rpms by 300 in fourth gear on my manual at 60mph. The milage between the 20's with 3.73 and the 18's with 3.55 would be no different.

I have an '06 with 3.55's and stock 20" wheels.
I don't believe the gears make enough difference between 3.55 and 3.73 to notice any REAL savings in MPG's.
In fact I looked and looked and could not find the 3.73 rear end with the 20's on a Lariat pkg. (sounds like the opposite problem your having)
Buying again today - I would get 3.73's
