This may be whats holding the Expeditions up:

2007 FORD EXPEDITION TIRES:TREAD/BELT
Recall Date: 07/06/2005

Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES ON THE DRIVER??S SIDE OF AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AT THE CENTER TREAD DURING PRODUCTION.

Consequence:
OVER TIME, THE DAMAGE MAY BE SUFFICIENT TO ALLOW BELT CORROSION ULTIMATELY LEADING TO A TREAD SEPARATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT ALL FOUR TIRES (TO ENSURE INSPECTION OF THE LEFT HAND SIDE TIRES THAT MAY HAVE BEEN ROTATED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE) FOR TIRE TREAD DAMAGE AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE DAMAGED TIRE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 13, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

Potential Units Affected: 10061

Notes: FORD EXPEDITION 05S35

Usually not a good sign when they issue a recall before the vehicles have even hit the dealerships. But I think the most disturbing part of this recall is that they are asking dealers to inspect the tires for damage. Since "corrosion" is a concern, one can only assume the potential damage is internal to the tire. I've never seen a dealer (car, tire, or otherwise) who can inspect the internals of a tire.

I have seen one in person. Even touched it!!! I just want to buy one. You would think with sales as bad as they are for Ford...they could deliver product to customers who want to spend money. Yeesh!

Here are several links to the tire recall and they all report it as a 07/2005 issue. The problem was actually reported to Ford in September 2006. This issue may involve vehicles built back to July 2005. That's the way I read it.

I actualy work at the plant that makes these trucks and, what happened is that on of the guides in the floor came loose and ,were sticking up. It tore up some tires but, The problem was taken care of pretty quickly. You need to give us a little room to make the best product that we can...our asses are on the line!

OK I AM A BELIEVER. I touched one last night for the first time. A 2007 expedition EL Limited. It was black and very long. My wife loved it. Looks very rich inside. Was concerned about 5.4 in it though being so long. Dont know what it weighs but are V10s an option here.

I know it's a few weeks later, but I just picked up my 07 EB 4x2 Carbon/Charcoal w/20" wheels last night. So far, so good.
