I need to replace the cable that goes from the accelerator pedal to the automatic transmission on a 88 Bronco II. I have been told that it is either a kick down cable (TV) or a overdrive cable. The casing on the cable is broken with casing wires explosed and nicks in inner cable. I have had no luck on typical sources for replacement. Any ideas?

 

There is no such thing as an O/D cable, so it has to be this:

E8TZ7A187A .. Kickdown Cable / Obsolete / Fits: 1988 Bronco II & Ranger with A4LD.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Great. I'll await the picture. I tried the local dealers, parts stores, including Autozone, Ebay and the web. I was looking into how to repair my existing cable.

 

Well, I can tell you how to repair it, from memory of how it looks. I will try pulling it tomorrow. Get a crimper from HD, buy a cable from HD, put a ferrule on one end (gas pedal), and crimp it. Fishing line weight might do too.

 

It isn't the cable ends that are the problem. It looks as if the previous owner let it get to close to the headers and the casing is melted away, leaving only the wire strands of the casing and the cable. The missing casing area is large and there are nicks in the cable, which looks to be plastic and it has a few cuts in it also. If you or someone else doesn't have a spare cable that I can get, I will have to search junk yards as no one appears to have a new one. I don't know what years/models will work, so I will have to take it along with me. Thanks.

 

1984/87 is different, as is 1989 and later.
