Manual Steering Box How to Change
Howdy,
I have a 64 F100, (just got it) The manual steering box has a lot of play at the sector shaft. Is there a bushing in there ? If its the box i know i can get a rebuilt unit. But how do i take it off? Can i just remove the 3 bolts and pull it away from the steering shaft?
thanks in advance.
Mike

You will need to pull the column and box as a unit up through the floor. Remove the wheel and signal switch, remove the access plate and rubber boot from the floor. Unbolt the arm from the box, remove the three bolts, remove the dash mount and yank the column. Have fun.

I have a 62 that had about 7" of play in the wheel. There is a nut with a set screw inside of it, its on the inside of the box facing the engine. Loosen the locknut and turn the screw clockwise untill you cannot turn it anymore or until it tightens up, this will not take all of the play out but it will take some. I got about 5" out of mine and I pumped it full of grease there should be a grease cert on the box somewhere that you can put grease in it. Hope it helps.
