Ok, I'm stumped. Why can't you rev a 3v like that?

It is supposed to be that way? The V-10 loves RPM! Who would do such a sick thing?

It is preset in the PCM. You can floor the 3V in neutral or park and it won't go past 3K.

Engine protection I would imagine.

I was thinking about getting a Gibson extrem duel exhaust system.

What are you feelings/comments about the Gibson exhaust on a 07 v-10?

I wish i could comment on other exhaust systems but there are a limited few V10's in my area. And the ones i have seen are stock. My truck before the exhaust was so quiet i could literaly sneak up on people walking down the road. Had to change that...hehe.

I've been thinking of doing the y pipe and changing just the muffler, but I'm afraid of losing all my bottom end torque. I wouldn't mind some noise, just not to much. Does the y pipe make a big difference . My dad has a 99' 150 w/ a 5.4 and he had a 3" cat back put on and they used a flowmaster, the muffler they used made him lose all his bottom end and he hated towing with it. I'm not sure what series they used. He took it to a different shop and they said the previous shop used the wrong muffler, they warrantied him the right one and he has his bottom end back. I just don't want to go through that.

I was advised by an exhaust guru who has had a shop in his family for 2 generations now that you can make a better y pipe or use an aftermarket one. But he recommended using or putting something else that escapes me at the moment in....im thinking venturi's but not sure, to keep the low end torque. Hope that helps.

This "losin' bottom end" stuff is gettin' old.

Next time you go out in your truck look and see what RPM you're turnin' when you take off. Mine is usually around 1800. What do they call that..."stall speed"? Thta ain't low either. Heck, that's the cruisng speed (engine) for most of us.

With my Y and cat-back, my performance increased! Especially at that RPM and above. I don't think I lost anything at 1300 but the damn thing downshifts anyway at that RPM. I can hold 1500RPM in OD a lot better than I used to. A bit more roar but...

And as for passing?! This thing moves faster than it really should. I shudder to think what it would be like with a Supercharger...no really!...I actually shudder all over...kinda like an orga...oops...

i agree, the losing bottom end thing does get old....people usually think that because they gain alot of mid-to top power with intake/exhaust mods so they feel like they lost their bottom end

I totally agree wioth Monsta. A quick read through here and RV site's, you will find that guys run in the 3000-4000 rpm's all day while towing especially up hills. Hardly a low end rpm.

OK, I've been following this thread for awhile. The question is, does the V10 need backpressure. many of the cat backs are straight throught design while the FM 50's & 70's are baffled. What will work better on a 3 valve motor ? I went through this same problem with my late sick liter and it did indeed loose low end responce with the straight through design. I want a cat back with a little more noise but do not want to loose any response. Does the Gibson or Magnaflow have baffles in the muffers ? Thanks, John
