My "squeal" in fact doesn't happen under load, only under decelleration, downshift or letting off while cresting a hill. Just driving the truck around, unloaded, I never hear "the noise"

I don't think it completely goes away, just reduces in intensity. When decelerating the injectors aren't firing as much, less work on the HPOP. While driving, the HPOP is 'singing' even louder than the turbo whine. And while the turbo is 'music', the blasted HPOP is annoying.

The chirp sound I'm referring to is not a squeal like you hear from belts, etc but a distinct timed metallic "chirp" that increases or decreases with engine revs at deaccel and light throttle. Almost a tink- tink- tink sound like an internal metal flap of some type is opening and closing. Only occurs after a warm up and then increases in volume as temp increases. Ford tells dealer it relates to the hpop pipe.....?
I only hope this is not the beginning of the end of my past positive feelings for the super duty line.

Yep, same here. Doesn't do it when the oil is cold or warm. Only when the oil is hot (or at least up to normal opt temp). It's certainly NOT the belts, nor the turbo.

I think I may know what you are referring to and I always thought is was the suspension. Mine isn't that loud.

PDXHARV:

Thanks for the update. It is currently hot weather and the A/C just about always running fan at MAX which drowns out the stinking noise.

Mine too only occurs once the engine is at operating temperature.

Ford should get this issue resolved.

resurrecting this one. Did anyone ever find out a solution to this issue? I have this issue and have ruled out the belt and pulleys. I can hear the squeak chirp with stethescope on the hpop cover.

Exactly what mine does. 2006 F350 Dually.

I'm curious as to why this issue seemed to disappear after 2006. There are a couple long threads on other forums around late 2006. People were quite upset then everyone just quit talking about it. I'm just bringing this back up because I remember when my truck did not have this issue, it actually started about 700 miles ago.

If anybody is still subscribed to this I have a question. Did your noise just go away, and is that why all the chatter just stopped. I had a noise for about 12k mi. Then it just went away. I guess if the op's issue went away then that would explain why the posts just stopped. Maybe they got paid off ( hush hush $$$). Dunno.

if the chirping is not the belt, then pop the hood open, and check to see while running the engine, and see any weird movement. it may be the harmonic balancer coming loose and it may be wiggling down below. it's right in front of the engine and all the way down below. i'd check all the externals, then proceed to the internals.

This thread is wierd. Could all their chirps have been lifters??? The posts just stopped, and dissappeared for 6 years. Are any of the op's still on here. I'd love to hear their outcome.

I had the chirp for a long time. Thought I would put my lifter video here. This could cause it for sure. Credit Mike(mchan68) for the diag.

Wow! Those are some bad looking rollers. So much labor to get to where you are. Don't wanna do it again. BTW, how many miles on this motor? What type oil used? IIRC didn't your odo stop counting?

Motorcraft 15/40. 582k. Odo still counting. The engine hour stopped n stayed at 9999.9.

Btw, I shut the truck off with the key before tear down. Main drive ability issue was a failed inj copper washer. Truck was squeaking tho. I prob could've changed inj, then drove, for how long?????? 1 mile. Lol
