carb 3.8

Was the 3.8l ever carburated? Is there any way to make it carburated? I want to put this in a custom build and don't want alot of electronics.

The 1983 Thunderbirds had a 2bbl 3.8

1984 they went TBI. Mines a '84 and it'll be getting a 302 soon instead. I'll be converting the 3.8 to a 2bbl as well, and putting it in something else...

I love my 3.8. Makes my '84 Tbird get up and scoot. I almost (almost) feel bad about planning a 5.0l motor swap...

What are you putting it in?

Throttle Body Injected intake manifolds will accept a 2 barrel easily. The early 3.8's had the Duraspark II system, so there is no computer to hassle with.

An entire D-II ignition is the amplifier box ($14.oo), wiring harness, distributor ($79.oo new), coil, plug wires, and set of plugs.

Is that simple and clean enough?

If you have a computer and EFI in the machine, you can unplug it and go carb and D-II ignition in one afternoon!

3.8 Carb

Also, the 1982 Granada's and Cougars (which are stretched Fairmonts)
had the 3.8 as did the 82 and 83 F150 trucks.

I thot it was only the 82 and 83 F100's that were so afflicted?

Don't get me wrong here, it's a nice mill. But a full sized truck is a bit much to expect a V6 to haul around.

The good thing about an 82 or 83 V6 F100 is that you know the frame can not have been overstressed, so it makes for a great project truck...

3.8

Your right. Only the F/100's had them. But they were
rated to carry 1/2 ton. I know the period advertisements
showed it with the 3-speed overdrive transmissions for
fuel mileage.

I'm actually toying with the idea of a "stretched" Ranger...

Maybe an extended cab with a longbed or cut and welded bed on an F100 frame.
